Perinet and Ste Marie – 7 days

This holyday allows you to discover the eastern side of the Red Island.
We cross the corridor of primary forest covering the steep slopes which tumbles down to the Indian Ocean coast.
Andasibe-Mantadia National Park (Perinet) has a unique wildlife, orchids and other rare plants, many species of lemurs, reptiles, amphibians … this exceptional nature can be explored on foot between waterfalls, rivers and rainforests.
From Tamatave, the paradise island of Sainte Marie welcomes us. Beaches, coconut palms but also a very cheerful people, the island is perfect for sea and land  excursions. Its lush vegetation and various crops such as vanilla, cloves, coffee, cinnamon … give it a fresh and unique flavor.
Humpback whales passing from mid-June to September makes it even more attractive.

    It is a journey of discovery and short hikes are scheduled for site visits.
    Madagascar is large, the steps in a vehicle can sometimes be a little long.

D 1: Antananarivo > Andasibe National Park

We drive east towards Andasibe National Park. This is one of the main roads of the country, it is relying the most important sea port in Toamasina and the capital Antananarivo, a heavy traffic.
We leave the highlands by the steep slope of Mandraka where starts the forest.
Visit of the butterfly farm to see an amazing concentration of chameleon, gecko, leaf-tailed gecko and butterfly of course.
Then go on east. Arrive in Andasibe in the afternoon.

D 2: Visit of Andasibe National Park

We walk with a local guide to discover this protected area. It is mainly covered with primary forest pecullar to the east side of Madagascar. Many rare and endemic species can be found in this rain forest. The biodiversity is so amazing, we can meet Indri indri the largest of lemurs here. His behaviour is fascinating and your guide will explain all about him. Many other species are living there such as Grey Bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus), Wooly lemur (Avahi Laninger) and others.

Flora is also very interesting, there are several species of medicinal plants.

We head back to the hotel in the afternoon.

Day 3: Parc de Perinet > Tamatave> Mahambo

After breakfast and always eastwards, we take the Ravinala road to Tamatave.
Tamatave (Toamasina) is the first port of Madagascar boasting an ideal location on the route to the Indies, among the longest beaches of the Indian Ocean and Bay Ivondro.
It is not surprising that Portuguese, French and English quarrel about the city to make a strategic counter.

D 4: Sainte Marie> Mahambo

Breakfast at the hotel then appointment at the beach to take the boat to Sainte Marie.
Transfer by “El condor” boat to go across the canal separating the big Island to Ste Marie (+/- 3h30).
We are in one of those little paradise, as the Indian Ocean can offer us. Ste Marie is quiet and peaceful place, with natural white sand and coconut palms. Your guide accompanies you to the airport of Tamatave but the hotel takes you once you get there.

D 5 and 6: Days at leisure at Ste Marie

Days at leisure in Sainte Marie Island. You are free to choose your activity, the best way to move around is by bicycle or motor bike. You can rent  a mountain bike to go east coast, visit pirate graveyards or just ride along the beach and villages. You can go to “Ile aux Nattes” at the very south of Ste Marie, then take a canoe to go across the lagoon to the other side, the tour of the island on foot along the beach is enchanting.
Small restaurants or hotels are along the way to stop for lunch or to refresh. You have a possibility for a sea outing, diving or snorkelling towards the coral reef in this clear water.
A lazy day is also an option … the decor, the warmth and ambience lend themselves perfectly!The guide does not go to Ste Marie during your stay, you get advice from hotel about all activities.
