“Célestine” is a respectable sedan, elegant and comfortable, that we restored with a lot of love, she accompanies you spryly since Antananarivo on the highlands until Tulear on the southwest coast of Madagascar through a chain of spectacular landscapes, in the discovery of an exceptional cultural and natural heritage!
Your bags are in the trunk and your road book in the glove, let’s go! You are ready for an unforgettable adventure on an earth of exception!
Note: The day by day of this circuit is indicative because you can adapt this program according to your desires. We suggest you 3 beautiful stages to add to your road book:
- A day of quiet hike in the villages and rice fields around Antsirabe ;
- A day of excursion in the park of Ranomafana ;
- A train journey towards the East coast, from Fianarantsoa to Manakara.
- A vintage car which you drive ;
- Artisans and villages in the Highlands ;
- The lemurs in Anja Reserve ;
- Hiking in the Massif of Isalo ;

In Madagascar, the altitude can be a factor but it is not decisive. We evolve from 0 to 2400m of altitude.
You only carry your little bag of the day.
Madagascar is large, the steps in a vehicle can sometimes be a little long.
“Adventure”Majority of of nights under tent (camping) with hotels and / or hostels where possible.
In camping, meals are prepared by the Malagasy Tours team with fresh products, even in trek.
Attentive service in bivouac. Frequent showers, but not daily.
Travel by all-terrain vehicle on tarmac roads and / or tracks.
D 1: Antananarivo > Antsirabe
We “deliver” you Célestine at 8:30 am and we dedicate 2 hours to the handling of the vehicle, together with a driver/mechanic guy who will accompany you until the exit of Tana, on the road of the South.
Your first tours of wheel make you discover a universe colored with rice fields and characteristic villages of the highlands. You can have a break in Ambatolampy to discover the work, rather surprising, of the manufacturers of aluminium casseroles.
You will maybe give a gentle tap of clean on the windscreen of Titine before taking back the road towards Antsirabe. On the spot, another means of transport offers itself to you: the rickshaw, the time of a small visit of the city in the manner of local people.
D 2: Antsirabe > Ambositra > Fianarantsoa
A turn of the key and you are again on the way on the RN7, southward.
The town of Ambositra offers you the opportunity to take a break and stretch your legs by going to mock in the shops of craftsmen and sculptors Zafimaniry, renowned for their work of marquetry. Do not forget to taste the local specialities in one of the numerous small on-the-spot restaurants.
Now, the road is more and more sinuous between mounts and valleys because we are close to the highest summits of the Big Island. You reach Fianarantsoa and you are now in Betsileo country, the ethnic group occupying the southern part of the Malagasy highlands.
D 3: Fianarantsoa > Anja > Ranohira
Célestine’s engine hums friendly; it is the moment of the departure southward. You soon leave the highlands behind you. One stop to Ambalavao allows you to visit the craft factory of the paper Antemoro, this paper made with bark of the mulberry tree Avoha is always made according to a secular process dating from the XVth century.
30 km by continuing southward and you arrive at the small villager’s reserve of Anja. The Lemur Catta hides in its forest nested at the foot of granite blocks!
After a small excursion and a lunch in the small local restaurant, you roll now on the biggest plateau of Madagascar, the Horombe, consisting of a beautiful grassy steppe dotted with giant termite mounds. Ranohira, your ending point, is in the feet of the beautiful massif of Isalo, at the entrance of the National park.
D 4 : Visit of the National Park of Isalo
Together with a guide of the park, you leave quietly a small bag on the shoulder for hike through surprising landscapes consisted of canyons, swimming pools and rocks in the magic erosions. Your day of stroll in this spectacular frame begins in the morning with a visit with the Natural Pool lost amid the vastness of rocks, it continues by a picnic near the Waterfall of the Nymphs inhabited by lemurs and ends by the discovery of the Black and Blue pools.
NB: the pace and length of the walk depends on you (minimum 2 hours). Your guide will advise you.
D 5: Ranohira > Tulear > Ifaty
After the breakfast, you leave the region of Isalo to run towards the coast and Tulear at the edge of the Canal of Mozambique. The road unwinds its ribbon of tar on 245 km and the vegetation of the South takes gradually its place in the landscape: baobabs, aloes, Euphorbiaceous… You probably will come across impressive zebu cattle and will make stops in Mahafaly tombs, surprisingly decorated and erected with wooden sculptures. On arrival in Tulear, meeting with the driver who will go up your vehicle in Tana. Together, you will pay a small visit of the city before borrowing the sandy track which goes along the beach and the mangrove swamp towards Ifaty and your hotel.
Once there, having made a last photo with Célestine and having wished safe journey to the driver, you begin to enjoy your stay feet in water or almost…
D 6: Day at leisure on the lagoon of Ifaty
This free day on the shores of Mozambique Channel will allow you to taste the various activities offered by your hotel. For those who want to enjoy the sea and lagoon, diving, boat ride with the fishermen Vezo, bathing or just relaxing. Hiking enthusiasts can explore the mangroves or go discover, inland, specific and singular vegetation composed of euphorbias, aloes, baobabs and a variety of spices: vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, cloves…
D 7: Ifaty > Tulear > Antananarivo
Morning at leisure and then, transfer to the airport organised by the hotel.
